     The population of Manipur Comprises different social groups. Somes are Meiteis, Nagas, Kukis, Meitei-pangals, etc. A significant population of Meitei also are settled in Neighboring country Bangladesh and Myanmar and also settled in domestic neighboring states such as Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya. The entire population of Manipur is distributed into two rigions: the hill and valley population. 
     The Meitei people are made up of seven major clans (salai),known as salai taret. Their written history has been documented to 1445 BC.
