             FISHERIES IN MANIPUR 

Manipur will become self-sufficient in fish production by 2020:Fisheries Minister

    Fisheries is an important occupation of the rural population living around the Loktak and other lake in the valley.


     The Fisheries Department is also running a training course at INLAND FISHERIES TRAINING UNIT at Lamphel Imphal, since 1973 to impact fisheris technologies to interest educated unemployed youths for self employment.
    The southern portion of Manipur has about 23 shallow lakes and swamps. Fish is abundantly found in these areas.




    PENGBA(Osteobrama Balangeri) is the state fish of Manipur. It is declared as State fish of Manipur in the month of December,2007.
